Welcome

The Thai day spa in the heart of Yarm

Tara Spa is an independent Thai spa on Yarm High Street, where every treatment is performed by highly skilled Thai therapists using time honoured techniques, natural oils and soothing aromas, all designed to melt away stress and restore balance to body and mind.

This is a small spa rather than a large wellness centre, and that is deliberate. A handful of candlelit rooms, no queue at reception, no upselling. Whether you choose a traditional Thai massage, an aromatherapy treatment or a longer luxury ritual, you will find 5 star hands and true Thai hospitality at an honest price, a 2 minute walk from the Yarm clock tower.

"Perfect experience from walking in the door. The rooms smell amazing! Spotlessly clean. I had the 1 hour Traditional Thai Massage, feet soaked, then stretched and a deep tissue massage. Loved every minute of it!"

Good to Know

Questions, quietly answered

Everything guests usually ask before a 1st visit. If yours is not here, call us on 07301 158604 and we will happily talk it through.

Booking ahead is always the safer choice, particularly for evenings and weekends, and it takes under a minute online. We are a small spa with a handful of treatment rooms, so walk-ins depend entirely on whether a therapist happens to be free. If you are already on the High Street, a quick call on 07301 158604 is the fastest way to find out.

We are at 49 High Street in the centre of Yarm. There is on-street parking along the High Street itself, along with the town car parks a short walk away. Yarm gets busy on market days and weekend evenings, so allow a few extra minutes to find a space rather than arriving flustered.

Come in whatever is comfortable. For traditional Thai massage we usually provide loose clothing because the treatment involves assisted yoga-style stretches. Oil can be used if requested. Whenever oil is used, underwear is kept on at all times and you are never fully undressed, with towels covering you throughout and your therapist leaving the room while you settle. Everything is explained on arrival, so there is nothing to work out beforehand.

Please arrive 5 minutes before your start time. It gives you a moment to change, mention any areas of tension or injury, and let your breathing settle before the treatment begins. Any earlier and we may still be looking after another guest, and arriving late unfortunately shortens your session rather than pushing it back, as your therapist will usually have someone booked in after you.

Traditional Thai massage is firm and deliberate, working along the body's energy lines with acupressure and assisted stretching, so it feels more active than a gentle spa rub. It should never be painful. Tell your therapist at any point if you would like more or less pressure and they will adjust straight away. If you prefer something softer, the aromatherapy or relaxing hot oil treatments are a better starting point.

For a genuine introduction to what we do, the 60 minute Traditional Thai Massage is the treatment we are known for, and it is the treatment most 1st-time guests choose. If you would prefer something gentler, the 60 minute Relaxing Hot Oil or Aromatherapy treatments are beautifully calming. When you want to properly switch off, our 90 minute signature Deep Relief by Herbal combines Thai massage, warm herbal compresses, aromatherapy oils and a head massage.

No. We do not offer massage to guests who are pregnant, at any stage, and we cannot make an exception. Traditional Thai massage in particular uses firm acupressure and assisted stretching that is not suitable during pregnancy, and our therapists do not hold an antenatal massage qualification. It is a safety decision rather than a matter of convenience. If you are pregnant and looking for treatment, please look for a therapist who is specifically qualified in pregnancy or antenatal massage, who will work with you side lying rather than face down and use proper support cushions, and do speak to your midwife before treatment, particularly during the weeks 1 to 12. We would be delighted to welcome you once your baby has arrived.

Please tell us when you book and again when you arrive. Some conditions mean a treatment should be adapted or avoided altogether, and your therapist would always rather have that conversation before recommending something appropriate. If you are under medical care, do check with your doctor beforehand.

Life happens and we understand that. Please give us as much notice as you reasonably can, ideally at least 24 hours, by calling 07301 158604 so we can offer the time to someone else. Repeatedly missed appointments without notice are difficult for a small independent spa, so we do ask guests to be considerate with late cancellations.

You can pay by card or cash at the spa, and booking online simply reserves your time rather than taking payment upfront. Prices on our menu are exactly what you pay, with no memberships and no hidden extras. Tips are never expected, though our therapists are always quietly grateful for them.

Yes. Traditional Thai massage traditionally begins with a warm foot soak, and that is how we do it here, because it settles the nervous system before any pressure starts. Guests regularly mention it in reviews. Our separate 30 minute Thai foot massage works reflex points across the soles and lower legs, and it also includes neck and head massage at no extra charge, which surprises most people the 1st time.

We are on Yarm High Street, and guests travel to us regularly from Stockton-on-Tees, Ingleby Barwick, Eaglescliffe, Middlesbrough, Darlington and across Teesside. Being authentic Thai massage rather than a general beauty salon, we are worth the short drive for many people across the North East.
